Misspelling Definitely

Why it’s my biggest pet peeve: It’s not even logically misspelled.

If you break down the word, the most important part is “finite” which means “with end” or “with a close”. Misspell that part and you lose the meaning of the word.  We can even go back to “fini” which means “finished” in French.

So logically we need that “fini” and “finite” in there to make definite mean what it means. It is not definately, please leave Nate where he belongs in your contact list.

It would be a little less irritating if that was how we actually pronounce the word, but we never say definately. Also, doesn’t your browser or spellchecker or teacher underline it??
